Sunnyside is a medium-sized neighborhood located roughly between Melrose, Teresita and Mangles to the north, Ocean and Circular to the south, Phelan and Ridgewood to the west and Acadia and Congo to the east. It borders Glen Park to the east, Miraloma Park to the north, and Westwood Park/Highlands to the west. It is a diverse middle to upper class neighborhood where the majority of the residents owning their own homes. Monterey Boulevard from Arcadia St. to Ridgewood Ave. is the primary shopping street of restaurants, cafes, small businesses, and a Safeway. The Sunnyside Neighborhood Association is the "Voice" of Sunnyside and incorporated in 1975.
The neighborhood was developed in 1898 as land lots for single family houses sold through the Sunnyside Land Development Company. This company installed a street car line providing access of the new neighborhood from downtown areas of San Francisco. Many custom homes were built and developers purchased multiple lots building 3 to 10 houses with similar looks and sizes. By the beginning of WW2 in the early 40's the neighborhood was 75% built up. The rest of the land was primarily built out from between 1946-1980s.
Baden and Joost Street Mini Park which has a well maintained assortment of trees and plants with a paved walkway and benches located at both entrances.
City College of San Francisco Culinary Arts and Hospitality Studies Program/Alice Statler Library was founded in 1936 by John and Hilda Watson Gifford and was one of the first of its kind in the United States. It is located at 50 Phelan Ave. (415) 239-3152. The Alice Statler Library has a collection of over 10,000 cook and food related books.
Sunnyside Park was remodeled in 2009 and offers a children's play area, recreation center, and a dog park.
The Sunnyside Conservatory is a botanical garden from the 1890s. It was restored in 2009 completely with its hot house, and now serves as a meeting room for community groups. It can be found at Monterey Boulevard and Congo St.

Since 2000 the campus has been extensively remodeled and modernized with sports facilities, upgraded buildings, and easy BART and MUNI access.
