_ St. Francis Wood is one of the most affluent residential neighborhoods in San Francisco located in southwestern part of the City. The Neighborhood is roughly Portola to the north, Monterey and Miraloma to the south, Juipero Serra to the west and San Jacinto and Miraloma to the east. It is characterized of spacious family houses on large lots. You can find Italian Renaissance revival, a style favored in the first decades of the 20th century, French Renaissance, Spanish-Moorish, Tudor, and English cottage homes here. It is a quieter part of the city and lacking many of the small businesses and retail establishments that can be found in other affluent neighborhoods such as the Marina or Pacific Heights. It does however have very clean streets and sidewalks with well-tended trees and flowers. There is however fog in the summer.
Note If you buy a home in the St. Francis Wood, you are required to become a member of the home owners association and agree to adhere to the strict covenants, conditions, and restrictions. These were adopted in 1917 and renegotiated in 1950 and they regulate work done on house exteriors, landscaping, paint colors, windows, additions, fences, building materials, and any type of remodeling that can be seen by neighbors.
The only park in this neighborhood is located at Santa Clara Avenue and Terrace Drive. The neighborhood association maintains the playground, tennis and basketball courts. There are no public or private schools within this neighborhood, so all the kids are driven or bused elsewhere.
