The North Waterfront contains many tourist shops, great Bay views and the famed Pier 39. The North Waterfront is the neighborhood of San Francisco located between the San Francisco Bay to the north, and roughly Columbus/Bay/Lombard and Broadway to the south and between Columbus/Kearny and Sansome to the west and again the San Francisco Bay to the west. This neighborhood offers unparallelled views of Alcatraz and Angel Island. This area has many tourists and tourist shops the closer you get to the wharfs along the water. There is easy public transportation access via MUNI buses and streetcars.
Embarcadero is a street that runs along the waterfront and offers joggers and rollerbladers wonderful views of the Bay. Their are also some retail shops and restaurants along the piers.
Fisherman's Wharf gets its name from the fisherman many whom were of Italian descent and fished the Dungeness Crab during the times of the Gold Rush. It is now made up of retailers, odd shops, restaurants and novelty shops located around the north SF piers with Pier 39 being the most popular. Fishing boats to this day still operate from the wharf. Musee Mecanique is a museum dedicated to 20th century penny arcade and other mechanical artifacts from the historical Playland. The museum has over 300 mechanical machines, and is one of the largest privately owned collection of such games and machines in the world. It can be found at Pier 45. Ripley's Believe it or Not Museum collection includes 20,000 photographs, 30,000 artifacts and more than 100,000 cartoon panels. It is located at 175 Jefferson Street.
